A blogger friend from Singapore tries to incorporate IM or instant messaging to every online marketing strategy he creates. And most of the times it gives good results too. So when I found that a ComScore study on online usage in Singapore puts Instant Messengers as the biggest indulgence for an average Singaporean, I was not surprised.
According to the study, if a Singaporean spends one hour on internet, he/she spends about 14 minutes on instant messengers (eg GTalk, as Singaporeans are also found to be quite Google obsessed, like the rest of the world).
The top five activities which occupy his/her one hour online presence:
Activity Minutes
Instant Messaging ________________ 14.5
Entertainment____________________ 8.3
Social Networking_________________ 4.8
e-mail___________________________3.4
Online Gaming___________________ 1.4
So do the people of this small South Asian country, send IMs instead of emails? ... I think they do.
