What Windows users Want -- Windows 7 or Vista ?

A new survey by the industry researcher Changewave reports that many Windows customers are overlooking Vista for the upcoming Windows 7.

Microsoft informed the news media that when Windows 7 will be released, it will allow volume-license users two choices either to downgrade to the current Vista operating system or the older XP. There are also speculations about Microsoft allowing Hewlett Packard to continue selling XP on its computers for another year.

The downgrade policy is Microsoft's approach to please big volume purchasers. The high volume of purchase give them the right to use any version of Windows.

As the new poll by Changewave indicates that Windows 7 beta testers would prefer not to venture back to Vista. 68 Windows 7 beta testers were surveyed in mid-February and the results were that 44 percent of testers' companies were "very satisfied" with Windows 7. When compared to Vista's results around the same time in 2007 only 10 percent were satisfied with it.

Windows 7 scored higher than Vista on the grounds of performance, speed, fewer driver issues, less imposing memory requirements, a clean interface, easy customization and faster boot-ups. The complaints about Windows 7 were instability and incompatibility which is quite common for a new Operating System.

Microsoft's current move and the latest survey results indicate that Windows XP will stay little longer in the market, while Vista most likely will be replaced by Windows 7.
