What to expect in Music video games this year and in 2011

It’s right that Music games as a games category is struggling; but a sub-category, Dance music, is poised to revolutionize and give much needed support to the Music games.The hopes markets watchers are pinning on this Music games category can be gauzed by the fact that some ping it to becoem a billion dollar industry in next two years.

Driven by new motion-capture controllers expected to hit the market this fall, Dance music is buzzing with enthusiasm, at least for makers for now. Here’s a small preview of what to expect in Music video games this holiday season:

1) Microsoft plans to have its Project Natal motion-capture game controller available for sale this holiday season. The device is a camera that recognizes user gestures and body contortions as a means of controlling gameplay.

2) Sony's Move, announced at the Game Developers Conference in March, is more like Nintendo's Wii system, with a controller that users hold in their hands, a sensor to track its movement and a camera to project it all into the game.

3) Game developers, including "Rock Band" developer Harmonix, is expected to release games that use these new motion-capture controllers as early as this year, although most titles aren't expected until 2011. But good thing is, some sources expect the unveiling of some of these new titles at the E3 video-game conference in June.

I also think, the new innovations in user experience in Dance Music will turn things for better for this category and the super category in general. As in the past one year this category although is flooded by new content did not provide for feature innovations to excite the users. And as people love dancing in general, the combination seems great.

In addition, As these new controllers aren't exclusive to any one franchise i.e. developers will be free to create games using their functionality rather than developing exclusive peripherals, analysts expect between 10 percent and 20 percent of existing console owners to buy a Natal or Move device, and both Microsoft and Sony are expected to bundle the controllers with new consoles shortly after their release. So overall the scenario looks good. --------
