Samsung Wave 578 running Bada OS unveiled

Samsung has unveiled the Samsung Wave 578 handset, running Bada OS, at the Mobile World Congress 2011.

According to JK Shin, head of Samsung's Mobile Communications Business, with the Samsung Wave 578 handset, the company will provide the latest innovation in mobile industry running on bada platform. The enhanced connectivity, design and social experiences enabled by this handset represent Samsung's commitment to democratizing the smart phone market and providing users around the world with access to rich experiences and content.

Samsung Wave 578 is the second phone to have the Bada operating system. The Samsung Wave S8500, the first Bada mobile phone, was launched in June 2010, Five million phones running Bada OS have been produced to date and Samsung expects to ship ten million Bada devices by the end of the first half of 2011.

Samsung Wave 578 comes with the Near Field Communication connectivity. Samsung had announced NFC support for its own Bada Smartphone platform in January this year.

Overall the new phone is hailed for NFC, a 3.2 inch WVGA TFT LCD display and dual cameras.

Some salient features of the phone are:

1) A 3.2 inch WVGA TFT LCD multi touch display

2) A 3.2 megapixel rear camera and a front VGA video camera, for video chat. It can playback QVGA video at 30 frames per second and record QVGA video at 20 frames per second.

3) Inbuilt QuickType by t9 Trace which is two to three times faster than standard typing and supports more than 75 languages.

4) Inbuilt FM radio with RDS

5) A 3.5mm audio jack

6) supports social networking and is provided with the integrated application store, Samsung Apps

7) 100MB of built in storage plus a microSD card slot that supports cards up to 16GB

8) Connectivity options include: WiFi of 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0

9) Has 1200 mAh battery

As with Samsung Galaxy S 2, more than one version of the phone will be produced and availability of NFC functionality will depend on the market dynamics

Availability: The Samsung Wave 578 will be available in May 2011 in France and will then be gradually rolled out to European countries, CIS, South East Asia, India, Middle East, and China. The company has not revealed the Price yet. --------
