Acer Iconia Tab A500 China pricing revealed, same as that for US

On Friday, Taiwan-based Acer Inc, the world's second-largest PC maker, announced in China its first tablet, the Acer Iconia Tab A500, powered by the latest Android 3.0 OR Honeycomb operating system.

Pitched as an Apple's iPad competitor, given its specifications and price, the tablet is expected to hit the the Chinese mainland in mid-May.

Price: The 16-gigabyte version the tablet will sell at 3,299 yuan ($505.00), and the 32-gigabyte version for 3,499 yuan ($535.61).

The company plans to take iPad on Price and operating system. Notable research firm iSupply Corp agrees with the company on the price point. The price of the 32-gigabyte iPad starts at 3,688 yuan ($564.55) for the Chinese market. Although iPad2 is not launched in China yet, the second iteration of Apple’s iconic iPad is expected to sell at the same price it is sold in US, i.e. at least $599.

Notably, Motorola has also released a tablet for the Chinese market at the end of March, with similar performance to Acer's new tablet, but selling the 32-gigabyte model for 4,999 yuan ($765.23).



Sales Forecast: Analysts expect the new tablet to reach 80,000 units in the Chinese mainland market within two months of its release. With them expecting it to eat into the Android Tablet market, with Apple's iPad retaining a dominant position at least this year.

Acer has already announced the price and availability of the tablet in US. Upfor pre-orders at Best Buy, since 8th April 2011, and expected to start shipping from April 24, the 16 GB Iconia Tab A500 WiFi is priced at $449.99. This model has a 16GB of internal storage, WiFi but no 3G, and battery life of up to 8hrs.

Specs: Over all, Iconia A500 is equipped with the dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 250 1GHz processor -- the first mobile dual core processor; and an integrated GeForce™ GPU (Graphics processing Unit) that lets a user enjoy HD gaming, 1080p video and faster browsing, as well as running multiple applications and digital media playback at the same time. The tablet is equipped with a 10.1 inch multi-touch display, 2WiFi a/b/g/n and twin cameras– 2-megapixels up front and 5-megapixels on the back. There’s also HDMI, a microSD card slot, six-axis gyroscope and the promise of a 32GB version down the line.

Acer Iconia A500 is created in aluminum and weighs only 1.69 pounds and measures only 0.52-inches thin. --------
