About two decades ago, Sony’s Walkman, which was slightly bigger than an audio cassette, was hailed for miniaturization of a music player. In the ensuing 20 years, although surrounded by many very miniature music players, Sony is still known for being a leader in “Thinking small” – with Sony’s walkman shrinking all the way to the size of ear buds.
And now those earbuds are going to become 25 percent lighter and a third of their previous size.
In a month’s time, Sony is going to launch the latest version of the W Series Walkman MP3 player for sports enthusiasts (See picture below), which will be even in a smaller, lighter format. Like a pair of JF3 Freedom Bluetooth Buds, those wirelessly receive music from your mobile phone, and are moisture-resistant.
Officially known as the NWZ-W260 model, the new W series consists of just two linked earphones, one of which has a built-in MP3 player. Thus unlike the JF3s, no other device (a mobile phone) is required.
Compared to its W Series Walkman MP3 player predecessors
, this particular model is reportedly 24 percent lighter and third its size. In addition, the latest version is water-resistant and rinse-able (to get rid of any sweat).The music player will be available in 2 GB and 4 GB capacities. With the ability to simply drag and drop songs from the user's iTunes or Windows-based music library.
The NWZ-W260 can run for up to eight hours on a single charge. But with the player’s ‘quick charge function’, the player can be charged to play for one hour, with just a three-minute charge.
Price: The latest NWZ-W260 model, W Series Walkman will start selling by next month. The buyers will have the option to chose between two colors -- Black or white. The latest W Series walkman will retail at US$59.99 for the 2 GB version, or $79.99 for the 4 GB. --------
