Amazon adds Lending Library for Prime users with Kindle devices

Amazon has launched a new service for Kindle owners, who are additionally Amazon Prime users as well — the Kindle Lending Library.

What Kindle Lending Library offers?

The service allows Kindle owners to download a book a month for free from a library of over 5,000 titles, including 100 New York Times bestsellers (excluding titles from the six largest book publishers in the US; so a user will not be finding his/her choicest of titles).

Once a book is borrowed, it can be re-downloaded for free at any point in the future. Books that are included in the free lending library will have a "Prime" logo next to them and a "Borrow for free" button beneath the traditional "Buy" button. There will also be a separate section within the Kindle book store for books that are available to borrow.

That apart, although Amazon will not impose any due dates on books, users will only be able to have one book out at a time and users will lose access. Plus the availing of the service will require the user to have Prime membership; means that the access to the Lending Library stops; if the user cancels Prime membership. Amazon Prime service currently costs $79 a year and offers reduced shipping rates and some free video streaming. Thus with the launch to Kindle Lending Library, Amazon has now added free books to the privileges in Kindle Prime Service.

NOTE: As happens with any other Kindle book, a user’s notes, highlights and bookmarks in borrowed books will be saved, and will be available if he/she later purchases or re-borrows the book.

NOTE: Books can be borrowed only from a Kindle device.

NOTE: A user can borrow only one book at a time. When customers want to borrow a new book, any borrowed book can easily be returned right from their device.

NOTE: The service doesn't work with the Kindle apps on iOS, Android, webOS, or desktop.

Availability: Currently, the service is only available in the US. --------
