Nokia unveils Lumia 610 smartphone: A $250 cheap smartphone

At the Mobile World Congress at Barcelona today, Nokia unveiled a new, cheaper smartphone, powered by Microsoft's Windows Phone software.

Experts are seeing it as Nokia’s attempt to arrest or reverse its declining market share.

Notably, last year, Nokia dumped its own smartphone software in favor of Microsoft's Windows Phone to compete better against rivals such as Apple's iPhone. But the move failed to have any significant impact so far.

Nokia’s latest offering is a new Lumia 610 model, which will have a price tag of 189 euros ($250 or Indian Rupees 12500), excluding subsidies and taxes. The phone will go on sale next quarter (April-June quarter). The pricing of Nokia Lumia 610, takes Nokia's Lumia portfolio to an encouraging new price point in its pursuit of cheaper Android rivals.

Specs of Nokia Lumia 610:

800MHz processor, 256MB of RAM, a 5-megapixel camera, expected to run an updated version of Windows Phone 7.5, codenamed Tango.

The phone will come in four color choices: white, cyan, magenta and black. --------
