A new photo app, promises to take ‘food photos taken from a mobile phone’ to a new level.

The app, named The Eatery, is a distinct photo app, in a way that, once you click a particular food’s photo, it makes you more aware of that food, so that you can change your behavior and eat healthier foods in future.

Created by Massive Health, Aza Raskin’s startup, the app wants to make make people healthier.

How the app works:

1) The user takes the photo of he/she is going to eat.
2) Rate it on a scale from “fit” to “fat”.
3) The user shares the photograph with his/her friends.
4) The friends rate the food, by giving it thumbs up (fit) or a thumbs down (fat).
5) The food data thus collected gets measured in a health dial that scores how well or poorly the user has been eating.

There is also a feed of what your friends are eating, with pictures and comments. You can also check into paces where you are eating such as coffee shops and restaurants.

What makes the app distinct?

1) Brings the visual aspect of any food to the forefront. If a food appears fatty, viewers will instantly say it is. It’s much different than, telling “I prepared xyz dish in very less oil”. The picture tells all.
2) A user doesn’t have to count his/her calories to ascertain the healthiness of food.
3) Brings social sourcing into use. This is particularly effective in issues of health, weight etc, as people, especially ‘friends’ are experts at nit picking regarding these issues.
4) The more a user uses the app; the more data it shows him/her over time, charting your food habits in a very systematic way.

In case you really believe in the “Power of an idea” then a 21 year old New York Uiniversity philosophy major, Jon Chan, can be your guide.

Chan is soon to embark on the entrepreneurial bandwagon with Friidum.com.

The mobile app created this past semester, developed while in iPhone programming class, simply serves as a device to let the user know when a friend has mutual free time. Friidum.com is free and those who sign up will be notified when the mobile app comes out.

The site which grew from trying to solve the problem of not knowing when people have mutual availability became a one of its kind service for college goers.

While there already are a few apps for business meeting planning, the app is unique in hitting the mainstream on the people’s social side, who spend so much time in front of their computer, we never actually seem to go out.

The mobile app of friidum.com, thus can show a user exactly when another friend (s) has mutually free time’ and will allow him or her to call or text her to set them up together.

NY Uiniversity student develops a unique mobile app to set Young People up together

The Pentagon and the Department of Veterans Affairs has added a new application to its collection of iPhone and iPad apps to help soldiers struggling with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

The latest app, called PTSD Coach, offers a self-assessment test, step-by-step instructions in muscle relaxation and breathing as well as resources for support and suicide prevention. Other apps like Breathe2Relax , Tactical Breather and T2 MoodTracker are "portable stress management tools" offering breathing exercises and mood assessment. All these apps are Free.

Pentagon gives great importance to PTSD. Last year, it reported that over 400,000 veterans who received mental health treatment were diagnosed with PTSD. Since its launch in April this year MoodTracker has been downloaded about 17,000 times. PTSD Coach, launched a month later, has been downloaded about 11,000 times in 37 countries, including Mexico, Latvia and Japan. ---------

Amidst all the buzz of Google+, Google quietly launched a new photo-sharing app called Photovine for the Apple iPhone, this week. Many are seeing the new iPhone app as yet another networking effort by search giant.

What the app offers:

Allows users to take a photo from their phone and share it to friends in the app, remieniscent of the popular app Instagram. But improving on the Instagram offering, in Google’s Photovine, photos can be shared into a pool of other pictures centering around user-created topics called, what else but the "vines".

The teaser video of the app highlighst the same feature. The PhotoVine users can create ‘vines of photos’ of different names. In the teaser video the user is shown creating a vine called "warm and fuzzy" around the photo of her Pomeranian puppy. Soon others using the app, are seen adoring the cute dog photo and share their own take on the warm and fuzzy theme.

Photovine which hit the Apple's App Store two days ago, is still to have an android version of it on android market. That apart, interestingly, there’s no Google branding of Logo in the teaser video itself. The app is also submitted by Slide (and not Google), a property of Google, on the App Store.

Availability: PhotoVine is currently in an invitation-only testing mode. This tactic may be more than Google’s tradition of launching new services in invitation only mode, as it followed in Google+ as well. The invitation-only tactic means that not all iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad owners can download the Photovine app yet; and will be recommended by those who are active on both Google and Apple properties and devices. Google will send the link to loyal Google users, active on Apple properties as well.

For those who can’t wait to be invited, the "Photovine Team" places potential users on a wait list.

There’s no word on when Google will be making the app public or will be available on Android.

But as for now, the waiting List email informs that – “PhotoVine Team will be slowly rolling-out invites starting later this month". ---------
