Android Gets Samsung Wallet App

Samsung used the Mobile World Congress platform to unveil its Wallet app for Android. The App is similar to Apple's Passbook. Samsung Wallet app will allow users keep all their coupons, various tickets and membership cards in one place.

The partners at the time of unveiling include Hotels.com, Lufthansa, Expedia, Walgreens, Belly, Major League Baseball Advanced Media and Booking.com. Although the list looks good; but Samsung will have to keep adding to this list; else how will it offer Coupons and deals to the users. Partners will be using the Samsung Wallet API (currently in beta and open to select few) to provide time real-time updates on membership card points, changes to boarding passes, location-based push notifications etc.

26 percent Of All Downloaded Apps Are Only used Once
It resembles the story of a beautiful woman who owned thousands of foot wears; and had wore many among them only once.



Apple’s App store may have celebrated 10 billionth download in near past; but just like the beautiful lady with infinite foot wears; the vast majority of those apps have only been given the most cursory examination by users.

According to analytics firm Localytics, 26% of all apps are only used once after they are downloaded.

Not specific to to iOS though: the analytics firm studied thousands of apps across the Android, BlackBerry, iOS and Windows Phone 7 platforms; and found that across the board, one-time use was on the rise in 2010.

An iPhone app to take care of colorblindness
First a word about Color Blindness,

Color blindness or color vision deficiency is the decreased ability to perceive differences between some of the colors that others can distinguish. It is most often of genetic nature, but may also occur because of some eye, nerve, or brain damage, or exposure to certainchemicals.

Color Blindness has different variants, on the basis of the colors a person is unable to see: Like close to 6% of males, suffer from anomalous trichromacy, also known as red-green colorblindness. In simple the person can’t tell the difference between some shades of red, green, and brown apart. One example: red and brown look (depending on the light) almost exactly alike.

Now lets talk about the topic,

A security researcher Dan Kaminsky is attempting to develop a fix for faulty photoreceptors in one's eyes. With an iPhone application. Dan is developing an iPhone app that is capable of processing images to fix them for those (or make them suitable for those) who have colorblindness.

How the App works: The iPhone's camera will feed in images to the display in real time, but in between that, the images will be tweaked; courtesy to a collection of changeable color-shifting schemes from which the user can choose.

What is the technique:Exaggeration. Some colors will be exagerated to the extent that they over shadow the inability to view said colors. For example, the most basic Hue Quantize will exaggerate both red and green and moves them further to the extremes of the color spectrum, away from the indistinguishable middle ground where colorblind users usually focus.

Price and Availability: Named The DanKam app will retail for $3 in the iTunes app store and Android Marketplace. In due time BlackBerry, Windows Phone 7 and Nokia handsets versions for the app will also be rolled out. ---------

iPhone patriot informer network launched
A new iPhone App with a misleading name ‘PatriotApp’ attempts to gain from the patriotic zeal of common American.

No the app doesn’t provide useful functions like a pocket constitution or quotes from American forefathers. But on contrary, this app allows users to report any ‘suspicious’ behavior directly to the top government agencies like FBI, EPA, GAO, CDC etc.

What can be reported:

National Security, Suspicious activities, Crime
Government Waste
Environmental Crime or possible violations
White collar crime
Workplace harassment, discrimination, or other violations
Public Health concerns

Thus the app aims to turn smartphone users into a gigantic snitch network. Snitch in a sense; that what useful will people report to top agencies, if thousands or people are made informers. It’s equally probable that it becomes another network of people who will reporting information of little value.

So after installing the Patriot App, ‘If you see something suspicious anywhere, everywhere, anytime” just use the app; and in case “you say something (suspecious)” some other Patriotapp user will report that.

Making an average citizens into a network of spies feeding information back to the federal government. Don’t use the app if you are not common. ---------

Download Twitter app for BlackBerry
Twitter has recently announced that Research in Motion, the maker of Blackberry, has created a new Twitter application for BlackBerry devices. The application is free.

Twitter for Blackberry smartphones, includes the following features:

 the application (also called client) enables Blackberry users to tailor the way @replies and direct messages come to their device, and new messages (twitter direct messages) are sent in real-time for instant user response.

 Customizable interface for changing fonts, hiding tool bars, etc.

 Camera and photo gallery integration: users can take photos using their Blackberry built-in camera and share photos using the application.

 Email/twitter message and twitter username intergration: If a user receives an email or text message which includes an @username, it is linked to the Twitter app profile page.

 Twitter lists integration: Users can also build, view and edit Twitter lists.

 Inbox integration so that a user can read his/her Twitter direct messages along side their email and text messages: Provides notice of tweets and re-tweets, allows users to search Twitter for keywords (Search for users, content, and trending topics etc.), and the layout has been optimised for the smaller screens on BlackBerry devices.

 Automatically shortening of long links: Links are automatically shortened without the need to visit a third-party site.

 app runs in the background, allowing BlackBerry users to continue checking emails or surfing the internet while still sending and receiving tweets.

 No support for Trending Topics: There is currently no support for trending topics, but as the application is still in Beta( or development) state, RIM hopes to add this feature in time for the client's full release in the coming months.
