Apple is planning to launch a subscription model for accessing electronic versions of newspapers, according to reports.
Though publishers will be happy with this news (rising printing costs), this story quotes some source which says that Apple would probably seek a 30% cut of all subscriptions sold via the App Store, and as much as 40% of the advertising revenue. Publishers want a fixed fee model.
Newspapers already offer digital versions of their titles on the iPad, but these are distributed via apps rather than iBooks. Existing model is like-- a newspaper makes its iPad app, submits it to Apple, if approved, those users who opt for app on App Store get the newspaper.
