Elementary education is the sector where India needs to improve its quality many folds. A quality and useful education there can not only help children continue their education there and further; but will also ensure talent pool for higher education.
But the question remains how much is enough to address the sector well.
Google and Bharti Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Bharti Enterprises , on Monday jointly announced an initiative to support the Satya Bharti schools, run by the Bharti Foundation. As part of the pact, Google will provide financial support of $5 million or Rupees 22.5 crore to upgrade and support 50 elementary schools run by the Bharti Foundation in the states of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. These schools will be named as Satya Elementary schools.
Looking at market capitalization of these companies, the philanthropy effort looks quite small. But that’s not a damper, as any money put to Good cause is worth praising.
