Prodigy Gamer's AI Company DeepMind acquired by Google

DeepMind, a London based Artificial Intelligence startup by games prodigy and neuroscientist Demis Hassabis, along with Shane Legg and Mustafa Suleyman, has been acquired by Google. According to some unconfirmed reports Google is shelling out $400 Million for the 3 year old startup.

DeepMind is a formidable startup in the field of artificial intelligence. The startup currently has a team of at least 50 people. It has been aggressively recruiting for some time now. In a recent VC rounds, the startup managed to get more than $50 million in funding.

The strength of DeepMind is its founder, Demis Hassabis, who most experts are unanimously feel that is quite a talent. Hassabis is a child prodigy in chess; and who many believe is probably the best games player in history.

What the Acquisition of DeepMind means to Google?


For Google, the acquisition is in large part an artificial intelligence talent acquisition. As DeepMind, with its single strong focus on artificial intelligence is reported to be competing with companies like Google, Facebook and Baidu for talent.
