Some of the owners of the original Samsung Galaxy Tab, may definitely be looking for some upgrading opportunity.

They now can. Samsung has just unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 at IFA. The company claims that the Galaxy Tab 7.7 will be the world’s first mobile tablet, sporting a Super AMOLED Plus display. That apart, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 will be thinner than its predecessor. The tablet is 7.89mm thick and weighs 335grams.

Below are the key specifications of Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7:

1) 1.4GHz dual-core processor

2) 7.7″ Super AMOLED Plus display with a WXGA resolution of 1280×800 px

3) Android Honeycomb 3.2. Will be having Samsung’s TouchWiz UX with a Live Panel menu that will allow you to customize your home screen with digital picture.

4) A 3MP rear camera with LED flash and a 2MP front facing camera.

5) A microSD card slot to extend the storage further up to 32GB

6) 1080p Full HD video playback

7) A 5100 mAh battery that provides up to 10 hours of video playback time.

8) Likely Support for 4G LTE and HSPA+ 21Mbps connectivity on the tablet.

9) Supports both voice and video calls without the need for an additional headset or Bluetooth.

The tablet is made for enhancing videos and movies viewing experience. The device supports 1080p Full HD playback. It will also feature Universal Remote Control functionality, which will allows a user to connect to a variety of devices such as Blu-ray players, television sets, set-top boxes, DVD players and AV audio system.

Not to leave the music lovers behind, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 will also provide access to Samsung’s Music Hub service which the company claims offers over 15 million songs previewed or downloaded for a subscription fee.

Price and Availability: The Galaxy Tab 7.7 tablet will be available in 3 versions – 16GB/32GB/64GB ( all supporting a microSD card slot that will support to up 32GB). Pricing and availability have yet to be announced. ---------

PC maker Asus may have launched the Eee Slate EP121 at CES at the beginning of this year. But with the ever growing insatiable appetite of the Tablet buyers, coupled with Apple leaving nothing much to others; the company has launched an update or Ausus Eee Slate, the B121, running Windows 7 Professional. The tablet is targeted at Businesses.

Mostly identical to the Eee Slate EP121, the Asus’ latest B121 tablet computer has the following specs:

1) Powered by an 1.33 GHz Intel Core i5-470UM dual-core processor
2) Has a 12.1 inch capacitve touchscreen at a 1280×800 pixel resolution

If you have noted, then the Eee Slate B121 is shipping with Windows 7 Professional; while the older Eee Slate EP121 runs on Windows 7 Home Premium The reason for going for Windows 7 Professional with the new tablet is to focus on businesses and professionals. The Windows 7 Professional is chosen for the enterprise and networking tools. The idea is to provide tools and environment which is considered mandatory for Business users for security and productivity reasons.

Availability: Initially the Eee Slate B121 will retails in Switzerland only. The company doesn’t reveal when the slate will be available in the US and other international markets. ---------

Tablet manufacturers have already started spoiling the Indian tablet buyer. Yesterday Motorola officially launched the Xoom Android tablet in India; and Asus Eee Pad Tansformer is reportedly slated for an end July arrival.

Xoom buyers will have option to buy both the 3G and the Wi-Fi-only versions. Both come with Android Honeycomb, 32GB of on-board memory, a 10.1 inch multi-touch display, A-GPS, dual-core 1GHz processor, and two cameras (rear and front-facing).

How Xoom compares with Apple iPad 2:

Price: The Xoom 3G has a price tag of about 40,000 INR ($890), while the Xoom Wi-Fi has 32,000 INR ($700). Although no word is out on Indian pricing yet, it’s expected that an Indian will have to shell out rupees 20,000 for Wi-Fi 16GB version. ---------

BlackBerry maker Research In Motion (RIM) on Wednesday launched its BlackBerry PlayBook tablet in India. Popular movie actor Salman Khan did the unveiling.

Powered by a 1 GHz dual-core processor and 1 GB Ram (both mean faster processing and rendering), Blackberry playbook has a 7" LCD display, 1024 x 600 screen resolution, High resolution, WSVGA, capacitive screen with 4-finger multi-touch and gesture support. The tablet has a 5 MP rear camera and a 3 MP front camera for video chat.

The tablet can multi-task and supports Adobe Flash & HTML5. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Good thing is, to enrich the lives of Blackberry Playbook users, RIM has recently launched Facebook application for Playbook as well.

Price and availability: Blackberry Playbook is available at Rs. 27,990 (16 GB), Rs. 32,990 (32 GB) and Rs. 37,990 (64 GB); and the prices are similar to Apple iPad.The tablet will be distributed nationally through Redington India and Ingram Micro, initially in 1000 retail stores across eight cities and will then expand to other parts of the country. Accessories for the BlackBerry PlayBook will also be available in these stores.

Before making you final decision to go for Blackberry playbook or some other tablet, I think a few things the buyer should ask himself or herself are: How much you multitask?, how much you watch flash content, like videos on Youtube? and what is your preferred tablet screen size 7 inches or 10 inches. Shenzhen china based Huawei Technologies Co., China’s largest phone-network equipment maker, introduced its second line of tablet computers today.

Huawei’s new MediaPad tablet with 7-inch screen runs Google’s Android Honeycomb 3.2 operating system. The MediaPad will have more than six hours of battery life; and comes pre-installed with software to use the social networking sites of Facebook and Twitter.

Huawei MediaPad specs:

1) Has on Qualcomm’s 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor (It will be the world’s first tablet to have this processor)

2) Runs on Android 3.2 Honeycomb (Android 3.2 Honeycomb is the first version of the Android operating system that’s been optimized to run on 7″ tablets)

3) Has a 7″ display, with a pixel density of 217 PPI or Pixels per Inch (in comparison Apple iPad 2 has 32 PPI, Galaxy Tab 10.1 has 149 PPI and Motorola Xoom 160 PPI).

4) Has a 5-megapixel rear camera with HD video recording, and a 1.3-megapixel front facing camera.

5) supports 1080p full HD video

6) Supports Flash 10.3

7) Collaboration with RealNetworks resulted in the ability to play audio and video files of any format. Announced formats include: WMV, Flash, Mp3, and H.264.

8) Connectivity options include HSPA+ 14.4Mbps, WiFi, HDMI output and Bluetooth2.1+EDR
9) Has inbuilt GPS radio, and A-GPS support

As expected the tablet will have access to the Android Market. In addition the tablet will have access to Huawei’s own app store, and other 3rd party app stores.

Pricing and availability: No word is out on Pricing Yet. The tablet will be available globally in Q3 this year (America, Asia and select European markets) via carriers and retail outlets.

Notably, Huawei had introduced the 7-inch Ideos S7, also running the Android operating system at a Beijing trade show late last year. Huawei’s S7 tablet and an updated S7 Slim announced in February are already on sale in Europe and Asia.

The company plans to sell MediaPad tablet globally as well.

Although it took Huawei eight months to launch its second tablet; the company is focusing on consumer markets; by broadening offerings of devices such as smartphones and tablet computers; and by expanding into business-computing services. This is to maintain sales growth amid slower demand for its traditional phone-network gear.

Huawei aims to triple annual sales to about $100 billion in the next five to 10 years.

In the first quarter of 2011, the company captured 1 percent of global tablet shipments, which is still dominated by Apple’s iPad globally.

A rather unknown or not much trusted name amongst the consumers of computing devices, it’s a big challenge for Huawei to make its mark in the tablet arena. Basically a phone-network equipment maker, Huawei expects the total sales this year to reach 199 billion yuan ($31 billion) from 185.2 billion yuan last year. The company expects the sales of smartphones and other handheld devices may increase to $20 billion in the next five years, from $5 billion in 2010, reports Bloomberg. ---------

After previewing, probably the thinnest and lightest tablet in its form factor, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 in Germany; Samsung today showcased Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 in Russia as well.

The Russia unveiling was even more alluring for typing enthusiasts as it was unveiled with a brand new keyboard dock. The stylish white chiclet-style full-QWERTY dock has an opening where the tablet slides in at a slight angle for comfortable viewing.

Similar keyboard dock is available for its Samsung Galaxy Tab 7-inch as well, for a price of $79.99 at the Samsung Marketplace.

Nothing is revealed regarding the showcased keyboard dock though.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 runs HoneyComb; and has a dual core processor. The new super sleek Galaxy Tab lineup will also bring the latest tablet-optimized version of TouchWiz. ---------
