According to a newly leaked best Buy document, Motorola is up for a February 17 launch in US.
Talking of the price of the upcoming Motorola tablet, the same source who leaked the launch date has found a different price (not $800). The unnamed source says that the price point will be $699.99. A possibility of the $700 being the price after subsidy; and the $800 price unsubsidized.
The launch date the Best Buy document suggests can be true as Motorola has previously said the 3G version of the Xoom will launch "sometime in Q1 2011 (Jan-Feb 2011). The 4G version will arrive in Q2, and the 3G model will be upgradeable, though exactly how is not clear. One more thing which points to the February 17 launch is the normal Verizon strategy of Thursday launches.
Motorola Xoom is hailed as the true Apple iPad competitor; but the price can be an issue. As the wi-fi only iPad has a much lower price tag of $499. Add to this the huge app ecosystem Apple’s tablet has. But the $500 iPad has only 16GB of storage. In comparison, the Motorola Xoom, a HoneyComb or Android 3.0 tablet, has 3G, as well, will be upgradeable to 4G, has NVIDIA's dual-core Tegra 2, as well as 32GB of storage (reportedly).
The video below shows the Evolution of tablets, by motorola. The emphasis is on HoneyComb or Android 3.0, an android os specially designed for tablets:
