Nintendo has dropped the price of the Wii console to $129.99 for the upcoming holiday season, available widely starting October 28. The value package includes a black console with Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort on a single disc, along with a black Wii remote and Nunchuk controller. This replaces the current $149 version that includes New Super Mario Bros.

That apart, the Wii U will hit shelves on November 18 for a much pricier $299.99.

Nintendo drops Wii price To $129 For Holiday Season

"The Amazing Spider-Man," the upcoming free-roaming action game from Activision Inc. based on director Marc Webb's film of the same name; is all set to make its debut on June 26 for the Nintendo DS, 3DS, Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

The game, created by Canadian developer Beenox, will serve as an epilogue to the movie starring Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.

And see what, in the game the Spider-man has to battle not only a lizard, but also a Rhino, an Iguana and Felicia Hardy.

The movie, a 3D flick, on which the game is based, features Emma Stone as Parker's gal pal Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors, who transforms into the Lizard. The movie will hit the theatres on July 3, 2012.

About the game:

According to the developers at Beenox, the game’s story will not make inferior your movie experience in any way.

The game approaches the universe in a completely different way -- a more grounded, more realistic approach – An approach which gave the developers incredible freedom, informed Beenox studio head Dee Brown.

In an attempt to create a more realistic avatar of Spidey, the developers crafted a virtual Peter Parker that will show injuries he's sustained from battling foes in the form of bloody bruises, heavy breathing and scratches on his uniform. In addition, the game will also allow Peter park rent his own apartment in the game's take on Manhattan and use a smartphone that allows him to tap into a fake Twitter feed.

Beenox Developers who had previously worked on the comic-based Spidey games "Edge of Time" and "Shattered Dimensions," have tried to gel well their version of the Spiderman story in the new game; with the "The Amazing Spider-Man" filmmakers’ version of the game’s plot.
In an effort to expand the scope of Spider-Man's more naturalistic interactive escapade, the game makers re-imagined zany old-school Spidey villains like Rhino and Iguana as Oscorp experiments gone awry.

The developers, are also unleashing a white-hot version of Hardy, the sultry heiress-turned-burglar known as Black Cat, to spar with Spider-Man.

According to reports, the game has taken many cues from Rocksteady Studios' critically acclaimed Batman games "Arkham Asylum" and its sequel "Arkham City,". One important adoption in the upcoming “Amazing Spider-Man" game is the use of a slick combat system, which resembles the Dark Knight's counter-heavy fighting technique. ---------

Mario Party 9, the latest game from the Mario Party series, will release coming march 11.

With twelve playable characters and new challenges, expect hours of gaming fun.

Mario Party 9, which the entire family can enjoy, is created exclusively for Nintendo Wii.

Mario Party 9 is bigger than any other games in the series. Going through an evolution in new ways to play, the MP9 introduces concepts like, boss battles crashing the party and challenging players to compete. Activision is going to launch a fourth map pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops (Xbox360, Playstation3,NintendoWii,PC), addressed solely to the game's Zombies mode, on August 23.

According to the Activision social media manager Dan Amrich,

The Rezurrection pack will debut on Xbox Live on August 23, 2011. The pack will be released for PC and PlayStation 3 at a later date. To delight the gamers, the pack includes four remastered Zombies maps from Call of Duty: World at War and a fifth, lunar experience called Moon. The download also features a dashboard theme and official Zombies soundtrack.

Price: $15. Those who have already purchased the Hardened or Prestige editions of Black Ops -- who already have access to the four remastered maps -- will get to download the rest for free. ---------

Tired of the summer heat? Well, here’s your chance to plunge into the icy beat! That’s because a new game called “Winter Stars” will soon be coming to Kinect, Move and Wii.

Excited to know more? Well, here’s the thing. Winter Stars will be a motion-controlled winter sports game that will be packed with 11 different sub-plays. Players will be able to enjoy the excitement of paraskiing, figure skiing, biathlon, snowboard cross, snowmobile, curling, bobsled, downhill skiing, freeride skiing, short-track and ski flying.

Seems fun, right? But that’s not all. For players will also be able to choose whether to play the game’s single-player story mode or to compete with friends on its online multiplayer head-to-head campaigns.

Aside from this, it has also been announced that Winter Stars will be the first Kinect game to be published by Deep Silver. The game will also be packed with an extensive career system along with training sessions and fun challenges.

As for its availability, Deep Silver is currently planning to release the game in the fourth quarter of this year. It will be made available to Kinect (Xbox 360), Move (PS3) and Wii. The price of the game has not yet been revealed.

Winter Stars: A Glacial Game for the Kinect, Move and Wii!

According to a recent article by LA times,

Nintendo Wii is the most and only the one negatively hit in the console market dominance war among top three players in US.

Since January 2010, things have taken a decided turn, reports LA times. The Wii fell to No. 3 from No. 1 this year, that too in a three player.

The Wii's sales for the first ten months of 2010 were down 24% compared to the first ten months of 2009. Sales for Microsoft's Xbox 360 are up 34% and Sony's PS3 are up 14%.

So once Hot Nintendo Wii since its release in 2006 (From January 2007, just after it launched, until last May, the Wii was the top-selling game console nearly every month in the U.S.) has really slowed down.

On the ‘Games for the device’ front Wii is on a similar downward slope:

Electronic Arts Inc. recently told investors that Wii game sales outside of Japan fell 34% in the recent quarter(Jul-Aug 2010). EA expects it to be "down sharply" for the full year.

Something that has brushed on to people who have bought a Wii already—they have stopped buying new games and let the device gather dust.

Rivals like Sony have made their biggest profits from royalties on games made by other publishers for their device; but Nintendo failed to get the same benefit from this arrangement either; making some experts believe that Nintendo Fad has been fading. One reason, experts believe, the Japanese company recently slashed its revenue forecast for the current fiscal year by 21%.

Bleak times for Nintendo are not for no reason: Nintendo's last console, the GameCube, launched in June 2006 kept on lingering on at third place, unless Nintendo launched Wii in November 2006. At that time Wii was a novelty for the industry. The Wii, which was less powerful than competing machines but introduced a motion-sensing wand instead of relying upon the traditional pressing-button controller. No surprise it became an immediate hit, selling 74 million units worldwide. Wii launch was definitely a curve jumping move (something which was never envisioned by a gaming enthusiast ); Something that helped Nintendo tame the untamed market. Nintendo created a new market with Wii and then profited from it.

But the problem with the buyers who go for curve jumping products/services/concepts is that they are least loyal; unless constantly fed with curve jumping novelties; they change their loyalties. That is showing in the dropped sales. ---------

US Gaming Console Market in the first ten months of 2010

Video game-console makers like Microsoft and Sony have reduced their prices but Nintendo is not planning to follow them - at least not in the near future.

Wii game-console maker Nintendo is not planning to reduce the $250 price tag for its game device. Nintendo has broken records in North America for the number of units sold.

In the end of January, Nintendo's worldwide sales for the Wii system were 44.96 million units but by March, its worldwide shipments exceeded 50 million units. A 11 percent growth in two months.

Nintendo has no immediate plans to cut prices, but price cut can't be ruled out completely as a possibility in the future, around last quarter of 2009, just before the festive season.

But price slash will happen sooner than some expect it to, as Nintendo's two biggest rivals Microsoft and Sony already have slashed their prices.

Nintendo is also leading in sales for its hand-held devices - the DS and DSi; and has no immediate plans to reduce their prices either.

According to Nintendo, the worldwide shipments for the Nintendo DS franchise were more than 100 million units, as of March.

The fact that DSi offers new and innovative features to its users; it'll keep Nintendo ahead of its competitors in the handheld gaming sector for some more time in future, but price cut later this year is inevitable.
