Samsung Galaxy S 2 launched in Korea ahead of global launch

Ahead of its global launch in May, Samsung Electronics Co, the world's No.2 handset maker, has launched a new version of its flagship smartphone Galaxy S in South Korea (will be sold by operators SK Telecom, KT Corp and LG Uplus.).

Samsung is targeting a global sales of over 10 million this year.

One of the reasons for a local debut of the Galaxy S II, is Samsung’s legal battle with Apple Inc over alleged mobile technology patent infringements and design copy claims.

Samsung Electronics Co, a South Korean firm, hopes that the new model, will boost its smartphone shipments to 60 million units this year, globally from May through 140 operators in 120 countries. Thus the company hopes the new model to account for 17 percent of its global smartphone sales this year.

That apart, Samsung is also targeting an over five-fold rise in sales of its Galaxy Tab tablets.

A bit about Samsung Galaxy S II:

The phone, which is based on Google's Android operating system, has Samsung's own dual-core application processor. It is slimmer and has a bigger display than the previous version. Notably the previous version has sold around 14 million units since its launch in June 2010 ( South Korea, one of the most lucrative markets for Samsung's smart phones, accounted for 2 million Galaxy S handsets from these; in short one-fifth of the global total). --------
