Amazon Android Phone to be Unveiled on June 18...It's Official!
Gadget enthusiasts have been eagerly waiting for the new Amazon android phone. They have filtered the web for any leaks, rumours for so long that the official announcement of the June 18 event, to launch the much anticipated Android smartphone on Amazon's site, has become a celebration itself. The teaser on the Amazon Homepage of the new Amazon android phone has increased the happy tension even more.

And interesting thing is, the event is not Press Only event. Amazon invites all of you, yes all of you to attend the event. All you have to do is Amazon’s homepage and click to register for an invitation. If you’re chosen, which will happen before June 12, 2014, then you’ll be able to travel to Amazon in Seattle, USA and see this new phone for yourself.

The anticipation for Amazon smartphone is not misplaced particularly after the ambitions of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and the success of the Amazon's Fire-branded Android devices -- Amazon Fire TV, the Amazon Kindle Fire Tablet. The Amazon eBook Reader is always there. All Amazon needs to make best use of its app ecosystem, Amazon Appstore for Android, and Android Appstore, is a smartphone.

The new Amazon smartphone will be an Android phone, There's not much known about the Use Interface. That's what Amazon has created to sit above the Google Android OS.

We've seen the leaks, heard the rumors, and now there’s a press event on the 18th of June. The cool thing about this event is that you’re invited.

What can surprise us  in the new Amazon Smartphone ?

According to some rumours out there, the new amazon smartphone experience moves with the user. Apparently, there are sensors on the front of the phone that delivers a 3D experience of some kind. How and what, is not known right now. But since amazon is entering the smartphone market rather late, hence it can be assumed that the UI will be different from what competitors have rolled out so far. May be you can see some 3D bundled in a smartphone. Who knows.

See you at the Amazon Android Phone unveiling event in Seattle on June 18... ---------

Is HTC developing an Android phone with 3D display?
After seeing 3D displays trickle down to phones in recent times -- 3D phones from Sharp (and spice in India) – it was clear that 3D will not be confined to just TVs and gaming devices (Nintendo is bringing the 3DS early 2011); mobile phone manufacturers are indeed jumping on the 3D bandwagon (like Acer, Motorola are already working on a 3D Android device).

If rumors are believed, then HTC is aiming to be the first company to release an Android device with a full 3D display. Earlier this year in Barcelona at the Mobile World Congress, HTC were demonstrating 3D mobiles. But the show off, was just limited to the capabilities of its smartphone chips, and not with finished handsets.

The rumor (courtesy HTC insiders) is that with February 2011’s MWC fast approaching, HTC plans to show a finished android handset; which will eventually start selling by the end 2011.

Further information is, HTC are currently looking at developments in AMOLED and e-ink display technology. Giving credibility to the rumors, HTC has recently advertised for ‘display and camera design engineer’ who has “familiarly with 3D display and imaging technologies” and with “multiple display technologies”. ---------

Kinnect Hacker unleashes impressive innovations
After the launch of kinnect last month, Microsoft’s new motion gaming platform, the German hacker Hector Martin hacked Kinect, got open source drivers running on PC ( means made Kinnect for Xbox capable of running on a PC without any interaction or connection with the Xbox) and got a cash prize of $3000 for his effort.

Martin may have to content with 3 grands, but his effort is unleashing some innovations, that can earn millions! (May be).

Below is an impressive use of Microsoft’s new peripheral, one among the many, Creators, hackers and developers are up to using Kinect:

Oliver Kreylos, has used Microsoft’s new peripheral in an innovation that can be used as a 3D video capture tool. The innovative use makes use of the Kinect’s depth sensing camera, which bounces thousands of infrared dots off objects in your room to detect how far away they are. Kreylos can use that depth data to make a crude 3D reconstruction of his room.

See the video that shows a virtual camera made air borne in real time, plus 3D representations of stuffs in the room including the researcher doing all these 3D rendering using Kinnect’s depth sensing camera.

This video shows, Kreylos make use the 3D reconstruction of his room to accurately measure an object. He places two nodes on two points of a box, with a couple of clicks, and the computer spits out the exact length of the object: 37 and a half centimeters.

Spice Launches 3D Mobile Phone in India -- M-67 3D-- No need of Glasses
Spice Mobility, a handset-maker local to India, is offering a 3-D handset that requires no glasses (normally 3D viewing needs specialty glasses to get a viewer a 3D illusion).

The candybar shaped phone M-67 3D costs Rs 4,299 ($97 US) and uses an auto-stereoscopic display for 3-D viewing. The phone can be switched between 2-D and 3-D viewing modes with a simple press of a button.

The 3D phone has a 6 centimeter or 2.36 inch) screen that runs at low 240 x 320 px, or QVGA, resolution.

The method used for the 3-D technology, in the phone, is speculated to be the parallax barrier, the same Nintendo’s upcoming 3-D handheld system is using. In parallax method, film with slits is placed over an LCD screen, and alters the pixels viewed between the left and right eyes, producing a visual 3-D effect. Notably, the dichotomy in images viewed by left and right eyes, is the basic principle behind 3D.

Other specs are: A dual-SIM, a 2 megapixel camera, support for a 16 MB memory card, music player, FM radio, and remote wipe feature (in case of phone theft, the memory can be erased remotely). ---------

Toshiba showcases glasses-free 3-D TV
Toshiba, the Tokyo-based company, believes that it has a solution for television viewers who like 3-D but hate the glasses. Notably, glasses are one of the biggest consumer complaints about 3D technology.

The company on Monday unveiled the world's first high definition liquid crystal display 3-D television that does not require special glasses.

Toshiba describes the TVs as being for "personal use" (As the TV requires a viewer site close to the screen for the 3-D effect to really work, that may be the reason for such a description).

In its new TVs, Toshiba uses a "perpendicular lenticular sheet," which consists of an array of small lenses that directs light from the display to nine points in front of the TV. If a viewer is sitting within the optimal viewing zone, the brain integrates these points into a single 3-D image; resulting in a precise rendering of high quality 3-D images whatever the viewing angle within the viewing zone, says Toshiba . This is similar to what's used in Nintendo's 3DS, the company's highly anticipated handheld device that features glasses-free 3-D gaming.

Toshiba’s new 3D TV will have two sizes — 12 inches and 20 inches. Suggested viewing distance for the 20-inch model is 90 centimeters or 3 feet (35.4 inches) and 65 centimeters or around 2 feet (25.6 inches) for the 12-inch size.

The TVs will go on sale in Japan in late December, Toshiba said.

Price: The 12 inch model will cost about 120,000 yen ($1,400), and the 20 inch one will cost $2800.

Glasses free 3D TVs can make the future course smooth for 3D technology; but can 3D televisions without glasses be able to make a TV viewer watch TV for long hours; as it’s the brain which is doing the compilation work to have the 3D experience ? ---------
