Don't compare it with Moto X flagship .

Going by the specs and the price Moto E is for economical Buyers.

The rumors about Moto E were doing rounds for some time now, at that time it was being called Motorola XT102X . Now we know it's Moto E.

Courtesy, various sources and analyst forecasts, supported by the company announcements, here is how RIM and Motorola stand wrt their iPhone competitors in front of Apple:

Canada's Research In Motion has said that its smartphone sales would hit the low end of its projected 13.5 to 14.5 million in unit sales this quarter. Notably, RIM's forecast indicates that its high end smartphones like the BlackBerry Torch "have not sold so well. Hence it’s expected that when RIM does announce its final figures for the most recent quarter, it will be substantially below Apple's 18.65 million iPhones sold in the first three months of 2011.

RIM has said that RIM's new PlayBook tablet, aimed to compete against Apple's iPad, was selling 'in line with previous estimates.

In the just announced results, Motorola Mobility, has said that Motorola has shipped 9.3 million mobile devices, a marginal 9.4 percent increase over the year ago quarter where it sold 8.5 million. This again is about half of the Apple’s number for the same quarter. In addition, Motorola converted a much larger percentage of its mobile device sales from simple feature phones to smartphones. Notably, Apple's smartphone mix is 100 percent of its mobile phones. It only makes smartphones.

Sales of smartphones increased by 78.3 percent, from 2.3 million to 4.1 million, jumping from 27 percent of the company's mobile phone mix to 44 percent.

In US, which constitutes significantly in Apple’s numbers, behind Apple iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS, Motorola's Droid X is the third most popular smartphone. To make Apple more happy, NPD reported earlier today that Apple's Verizon launch had caused Google's Android platform to lose ground for the first time in the US. It stated Android had lost three percentage points of share in the US since last winter while RIM had lost 5 and Apple had gained 9 points. ---------

One count where Android devices don’t stand in front of the iPhone and the Blackberry line of smartphones is the security features. While Apple (the company is focusing on security specially) and RIM devices are know for robust security, making them attractive to the most pricky of all users -- the corporations, who need to be able to manage devices closely; the Android OS lacks that kind of robust security. In InfoWorld’s estimation, the level of security currently on Android isn’t enough for the device to be trusted.

Now although Android as such doesn’t need to address this particular security requirement, as the devices running on it are proliferating fast among, non-sensitive users, who hardly complain the lack of those; Motorola who also runs android in its devices, wants the issue to be addressed.

To take care of it, Motorola is summoning the services of 3LM, a startup that it purchased some time ago.

3LM is an enterprise security and management tool development firm. Motorola plans to create APIs that Android is missing to control security and management capability at the OS level; making its devices attractive to corporates too. ---------

According to analytics firm Flurry, the inital sales of Google Inc's Nexus One smartphone have significantly lagged the initial sales of Motorola Inc's Droid.

According to the report, Google sold roughly 135,000 (0.135 million) of its new Nexus One phones in its first 74 days on the market. By contrast, Motorola sold 1.05 million Droid phones -- which are based on Google's Android software -- during the same timeframe.

If one extends the initial sales discussion further, then Apple sold 1 million of the original iPhones in the first 74 days.

How Flurry got the initial sales estimates:

Flurry , kept a count of the number of times users of the devices downloaded Flurry's software applications featuring its analytics technology. The analytic firm informs that it's application softwares with analytics are downloaded to most phones present. ---------
