Google acquires Twitter's mobile app developer platform Fabric
A couple of months ago, there was some talk of Twitter acquisition. Who would be the ideal suitor? was the question. From some superficial thinking it came to us that Google could be the ideal buyer.

Google acquires Twitter mobile app developer platform Fabric
Ten days ago Google acquired Twitter's mobile app developer platform Fabric. According to reports, Google bought Fabric in a bid to help developers build better apps and grow their business. Fabric started as a modular SDK in 2014 allowing developers improve their apps. On the acquisition Google said, "The integration of Fabric is part of our larger, long-term effort of delivering a comprehensive suite of features for iOS, Android and mobile web app development,"says Google.

Fabric at present serves apps built by 580,000 developers. These apps are used by 2.5 billion users.

Fabric will join Google's Developer Product Group working with Firebase team.

Seems as if Twitter is acquired in bits and pieces.

Twitter's acquisition again in news | Google or SalesForce
Twitter is being acquired. And according to this article, this time the news comes from trust-worthy source.

This time, amidst the various suitors is Salesforce,a cloud services provider for the enterprise. Google and Microsoft are also among the probable buyers list.

In an article, which I wrote last year, I elaborated as to why I think some big search Engine, aka Google will buy Twitter. But this time with SalesForce in the picture, one can assume it to be a very interested buyer as well.

While #tags synonymous with twitter, its real time search capabilities suit Google. The twitter, if seen from a very restricted perspective seems to be a good add on to Salesforce as well. But that way Twitter would have to be limited to a marketing tool for analytics gathering. And its current virtue of being a consumer driver (common Joe) driven platform will or eventually be shed down. A scenario which will negate salesforce's any chances of making money.

The final thing which will decide the acquisition, will of course be money. I don't think money will be factor, as Twitter will be not solicit much money, to the tune of LinkedIn's (Microsoft purchased LinkedIn for 26 Billion USD). I think Google will acquire it.

Driverless Car From Google ! Smart Car For Future!
Search Giant Google plans to build the prototype of a Driverless Car. Google hopes that such a car will be helpful for seniors and those with disabilities. Watch the video below for more details :

In recent years, Google has made may acquisitions. These acquisitions cover start-ups and companies from a range of technology areas. A closer look at these buys gives a fair idea about what Google thinks will be the future of the technology and where money lies in future. A Driverless Car may seem to some as Google derailing from money path, but Google does believe that the future belongs to smart transport, where one sits or sleeps in a smart car guided by a GPS and a rooftop or cameras placed somewhere else. ---------

Google"Chromebook Pixel" launched: Features, Specs
Minutes ago, Google launched its new high-end computer -- The "Chromebook Pixel".

Price: $1300

Target market:

Everyone including the “enthusiast” market, which is represented by Apple's Macbook.

What is Google Chromebook:

Google’s Chromebook line of products, are computers built for “cloud” users who rely mainly on web-based applications and services. The line is particualrly popular with the education space. Previously, courtesy its target market, the Chromebook laptops were primarily designed to be affordable, which meant economic hardware, especially in terms of chassis materials and display quality, choices.

The Price of Chromebook Pixel, will not have all the Cheap form and experience.

Google Samsung collaboration had built the "Chromebook Pixel" laptop computer.

Chromebook Pixel's Key Features:

1) 3:2 ratio in Chromebook Display: Chromebook Pixel is made for the Web user. That's whose Computer is connected to the internet, most of the times. Since the Chormebook Pixel is meant to run web application and display web-content, Google chose not to use the 16:9 aspect ratio for Pixel. Because the web has a lot of vertically-oriented content, hence the Google has used 3:2 display, which gives 18% more vertical height for the screen’s content.

2) High DPI: Chromebook Pixel laptop has a Touch screen with high-DPI (239 dot per inch, or DPI, a bit higher than Apple’s Macbook Pro Retina display).

3) Made for Outdoors:

What is the best way to challenge the sun's brightness, while working on a laptop outdoor? To have a display much brighter than that of Sun's. To suit for uotdoors, the Chromebook Pixel's display has a 400 nit brightness. Complemented with very good viewing angles , the Chromebook is being appreciated for being outdoors friendly.

4) 4.3 Million pixels Screen: Although the modern day smartphones also boast, pixels in millions (like just days ago launched, LG Optimus G Pro’s display has over 2 million pixels that are twice as many on smartphones.); but still it's a noteworthy feature.

5) High End Audio Processing:  The Chromebook Pixel features two microphones to use noise-cancellation techniques like beam forming. The Beam Forming technolgoy is a common feature in smartphones and high-end webcams, but very few present day laptop-integrated cameras do have it. The technology gets rid off the background noise. Google even added a third microphone to detect, and filter-out typing sound from the keyboard. A particualrly lauded features.

Another advantage of having 3 microphones -- these microphones can be used by third party applications as well.

6) Microsoft Office compatibility: Chromebook Pixel will get the Microsoft Office compatibility by June 2013. Does Microsoft Office matter? Yes it does, as Microsoft Office is still the first name for most people.

7)  Effort made to make User Feel Good: Google always says 'Don't Be Evil' . In the Chromebook Pixel computer, Google has gone a step further -- it has actually tired to make the user feel Good. In this direction it has custom-designed a number of elements including a very specific industrial design; which it couldn't find elsewhere.

For instance, the cooling and even screws have been hidden whenever possible. Google has worked on the keyboard (for feel good and Fast Typing) and touchpad (has a a glass surface ) to improve the user experience as well. The touchpad has and went as far as making sure that the glass was extra-smooth. The trackpad interprets the hand/palm/finger interaction (it is improved too).

ChromeBook Pixel Specs:

The Chromebook Pixel is powered by an Intel Core i5 processor, which makes it as fast as comparable Windows or Mac systems. But since, Chrome has less processes running in the background, so the experience is noticeably faster than any other Chromebook before. Google sees the Chromebook Pixel's Speed as one of its USPs.

Pre-order Google Chromebook Pixel: You can pre-order the Chromebook Pixel right now. The Chromebook Pixel will ship to you in the “first week of April”. The WiFi version will cost $1299 and the LTE version is sold for $1449. ---------

What does Foursquare privacy policy New Update mean to a User?

But first what FourSquare changed in its new Privacy Policy Update:

1) Users will have to share full names. Currently, Foursquare sometimes shows a user's full name and sometimes shows his/her first name and last initial ("Adam Smith" or "Adam S."). When the new changes are implemented, Only the Full names will be shown.

Above changes are explained in Privacy 101, a new page explaining the changes it will begin implementing Jan. 28 2013.

If a user doesn't want to share their full names, they can edit the name associated with their account, suggests Foursquare. Foursquare only requires users to provide their first name.

2) Increased the Time period, the businesses can view information about users who checkin to their establishments. In addition, the new update requires users to share their full name with each check-in.

Why the Changes?

FourSquare claims that the change relating to Naming policy will make it easier for users to find other friends using the service. Regarding, increasing the "increased user information viewing by Businesses", the company only informs that Businesses previously were able to view information about visitors who had checked in using foursquare in the past 3 hours, which is now increased. By what increment, it's not disclosed.

What it means:

It means the same you also suspect. Actually, Adding the "name policy" to the change mix, is to divert the attention from the "increased user information viewing by Businesses" change. It's like, when you have to make someone agreeable on one important and controversial issue, you shield it under three other insignificant issues. That way, user can't decide in a focused manner on the most crucial issue.

Actually, the new Privacy policy Updates and changes, are to push the "increased user information viewing by Businesses time window". Rest is just trivial.

So the user should focus on: Whether he wants to disclose more information to businesses; or not?

More information, can also be curated, if businesses get more time to analyse a user information. Hence if more time is given to a business to analyse your info, more information about you will be at their disposal. Actually, big businesses don't require much time to analyse user info. This they can do in minutes. Actually the new change, will benefit the SMEs (Small and Medium Businesses)and individual marketers and entrepreneurs. They need more time to analyse the primary information, to get secondary inferences.

Only Today, I stumbled upon an article, which said, with a tweak of a wrist, Facebook can end the conventional Advertising. Now, Although Facebook has many pluses in its kitty; it's not that easy. And the reason is: The strengths of services like Facebook Foursquare and Instagram, are also there weaknesses. People may be spending too much time on these services, but they are doing it with social mindset. That's they are socializing the same way they socialize in real world, wherein they choose "people to interact with" cautiously. For the same reason, in Facebook, people may boast hundreds of friends, but they are in talking terms with only just a 6 or 7. That's why, every time such services, try to earn revenue through these users; the users backfire.

Foursquare isn't the only company to unveil a new privacy policy. Instagram and Facebook came under fire when Instagram announced it would begin sharing location data, usage data and device identifiers with other services associated with Facebook. Following consumer outcry over the proposed changes, Instagram rescinded its plans to institute changes to its privacy policy.

Google, who holds nearly all the conventional online advertising, may also be using a searcher's personal info. But a user, doesn't mind, as he/she is consciously searching for something and reaching a webpage for information; and hence sees any information curated by Google, as something which is for better information in future.

NOTE: Foursquare also announced that it had reached 3 billion check-ins. ---------

What is Penguin Killer and How to thrive from it?

On 24 th April 2012 Google released its latest algorithm known as Google Panda Update. Webmasters immediately felt the tremors of update as innumerable sites disappeared from the high rankings and bunches of other site rose inexplicably to top ranking. Perhaps one of the weirdest things of Google Panda update was the sites that were thin in content could be easily found in the search engine terms, while authority sites went in a drowsy state.

The webmaster community felt that SEO is dead but smart SEO’ers will always find opportunity in the problems. So, is it possible to strive and crush Google Panda update?
The reality is

The backlink is not a matter of past- Google Panda has clearly mentioned in its update that it prefers natural linking over unusual backlinking. There are ten methods through which you’ll be able to sustain the Google Panda Update.

Directory Submission- It is one of the useful methods to get the backlinks from authority site.

Guest Blogging- Guest Blogging is one of the powerful methods to thrive the competition. Through it you’ll get some authority links for sure.

Blog Commenting- Blasting of blog comments won’t help; rather it is important to add relevant blog comments to the website.

Social Bookmarking- Social bookmarking is another way to send signals to Google that you are socially alive.

Press Releases- Press Releases is a powerful method of backlinking and most of the people often forget to get backlinks through this method. You can head to prweb.com and learn how press releases are written and submitted.

Social Media Sites- Getting backlink through Social Media sites like Twitter, Facebook, Pininterest, etc. With twitter you want to tweet the links and add the post in hope of getting retweets. With facebook you want to add the posts and get likes for the same. With Google+ and PinInterest you would like to add images so that you are able to pin them and get backlinks.

Even though you can do it for yourself, but if you really want to ramp up the things you can obtain gigs from Fiverr.com. It simply means that your links are tweeted to 20 to 50 powerful accounts that originate from all over the world.

Slick Social Toolbar- Slick Social Toolbar button enables your visitor to quickly tweet, like and plus to your site. Think like this they are the person who is vetting for your site as useful and informative. And what does Google need informative and quality content.
It can also be done in a same way as stated earlier through Fiverr.com.

Pin Interest- Pin Interest is one of the rapidly growing sites on the internet. Hence, we can’t ignore it. All you need to do is to add compelling content with interesting picture and once you have published the same, now its right time to pin it. If the content is good enough there is a chance of getting repins.

Adding Links to Document Sharing Sites- the document sharing sites like Scribd.com can help you to get significant increase in your rankings.

Adding Links to Video Sites like You Tube, Metacafe, Dailymotion and Vimeo help you to attain visibility.

Google Glasses demoed at Google I/O, Developers can Pr-order for $1500
Google Glasses? Also known as Project Glass, or smart glasses, are eye glasses, which are Google's Attempt to give humans a wearable computers. The glasses come equipped with a camera to take pictures and record videos, and a heads up display, which can be used to show relevant information during day-to-day activities. That apart, the the prototype has variety of sensors (gyroscope, accelerometer, compass).

Check out the video below:

In the video below, shown at Google I/O 2012, the Project Glass team took product demoing to a new level -- freefalling with Glass.

[After the above Fee-fall video, the cameraman don't have to carry heavy camera on his free falling head anymore :) ]

Google sees the glasses as any other portable device, that'why it hopes that developers will be creating apps specifically designed for Google Glass, as they create for any other device. So that glasses go well with various Android-based products once its launched.

The interesting part is, while Project Glass is not commercially available at this time, Google revealed that developers will be able to pre-order a Google Glasses “Explorer Edition” unit at Google I/O.

Their Glasses will be shipped at some point in early 2013.Much ahead of the public launch. Google launches 'Google Now' -- Siri like feature with Jelly Bean
Google launches 'Google Now', Siri like (voice guided Assistant in Apple's iPhone)feature with its new Android 4.1 OS or Jelly Bean.

But Google Now is more capable than Apple's Siri.

Google Now:

The new Google Now features voice control and search, just like Siri, but it also has a new card-based interface to help users in their Day to day activities.

Putting its Search expertise to work, Google's voice Assistant feature pulls users’ search history, calendar, and location to present the users with the information they need when they need it. So based on the user's search history, the Google Now can give users information like the next appointment in their calendar, when to leave for the destination, the information about the trains to arrive at the subway station when the user reaches there, give directions around traffic etc.

Since he Google Now feature is based on User's search history, it is capable of offering information of almost anything a user usually searches. This can be real-time updates for games, weather, nearby points of interest etc.

What makes Google Now Better than Siri?

Unlike Siri, Google now can also provide translations, currency conversions, and flight information. But what makes it better than Siri is: users don’t actually need to ask the feature to provide the information. The information will just appear based on the time and location, though users should still have the ability to ask Google Now for specific information.

On second thoughts, lets hope Google Now doesn't turn into an irritating friend, or Bossy wife or Girlfriend!.

Google to have Apple Game Center like Native App for Android
Who says Big companies don’t learn for each other!

According to BI, Google has pinpointed two things which till now prevented Google from earning well from the fat growing mobile games market. The two things, which the search giant learned from none other than rival Apple, are : 1) A native Android app similar to Game Center, an app on the iPhone that connects players in most of Apple's iOS games; and 2) Making the payments system for Google Play, the online store where players buy Android games and other apps, as smooth as buying games in the App Store.

This Google thinks are vital to make Google a contender in the fast-growing mobile games market.

What will ‘native Android app similar to Game Center’ offer?

A social "achievement" system, which will offer gamers awards and trophies for achievements in Games. In addition, there will be a leaderboard which will rank players against their friends. From where Google will get all these friends? Google+ .

Although Developers creating Android games are already using a variety of third-party solutions right now, like OpenFeint, to make for the deficiency; Google is hopeful that with a native game center and effective tweaks to the payments system for Google Play, Android developers will be happy. ---------

Google actively working on Semantics to create a Siri Challenger
Don’t know of users, but the tech world loved Siri, Apple's digital assistant.
Now reports are that Google is working to challenge Siri with the voice-powered Majel (the Star Trek inspired name).

Rumors are that the project is still in the works and will soon take off. And Androids will soon have a voice, too.

According to a recent Wall Street Journal report, Google has invested heavily in semantic (semantic means relating to meaning, especially meaning in language) search.

A true development in the area of semantics, coupled with Google's massive data collection, would give the search giant an instant advantage against its competition, informed Google search executive Amit Singhal.

NOTE: Semantic search tools allow the user to perform searches in a natural voice tone, instead of using technical and cryptic commands. For instance if advanced semantics are applied to search, if a user needs to find an Italian restaurant nearby then he/she would say to search "where is the nearest Italian restaurant?" – instead of typing to Google, "Italian food, Boulder, Colorado".

Availability: Google is expected to unveil the new product this year, as more than six months of intense work has already been put into the project.

Entry-level Android smartphones Cost will drop to $70 within next two years: predicts Google
Android phones which are seeing 850,000 activations a day (or 310 million a year. The number of Android device activations had roughly doubled every six months), will be in every pocket within the next two years.

In his Keynote speech at Mobile World Congress 212, Barcelona, Google's Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt predicted that: The cost of entry-level Android smartphones will drop to around $70 — or £44 — within the next two years.

This decline in prices, will be fuelled as a result of falling component prices. The fall in component prices will also lead to massive reduction in need for feature phones.

Making the Android phone pricing easier to understand to a common Joe, Schmidt sued the following words:

"Next year's $100 phone is this year's $400 phone. Many people are working on phones in the $100 to $150 range. When you get to the $70 point you get to a huge new market. Smartphones will cost what feature phones cost now next year".

Google sees a need to manufacture more Android phones, as courtesy its Google-specific features such as the Android Market, people around the world will want to have Android phones. This in Google’s view will elevate Android phones among competition.

In 2012, Google intends to expand the full Android ecosystem with Ice Cream Sandwich on every device, in the hope of bringing more non Google-certified manufacturers into the fold. ---------

Google starts country-specific content filtering on Blogger
Google starts country-specific content filtering on Blogger

So, do we assume that online giants like Google and Twitter, have finally bowed down to the wishes of the countries (including US and India), eager to enforce regulations on the internet?

Although it’s too early to say for sure, but less than a week after a similar move by micro-blogging site Twitter, Internet giant Google has rolled out plans to make content on its blogger platform selectively available, depending on the local rules of each country.

Google’s blogging service -- Blogger – launched in 1999, said the rules will be applicable in many countries, including India, Brazil, Honduras, and Germany etc.

Notably, Google plans to roll the new country specific restrictions globally as well.

What the new country-specific content filtering on Blogger means:

If a blogger blog, has content in violation to the laws of a particular country; then that particular content or the entire blog will not be accessible in the said country.

That apart, Google will now be able to restrict content in individual countries pursuant to requests by the local legal authority. The move will not affect the accessibility of the blog elsewhere in the world. This will allow Google to block content only in those countries, whose laws, find the content illegal.

Google plans to deploy country-specific URL scheme on Blogger

In order to make the country specific content filtering easy for it; Google said it is deploying a country-specific uniform resource locator ( URL) scheme for its blogger platform, which will be redirected to a country-code top level domain, or 'ccTLD', in the coming weeks.

For instance, all the blogger blogs originating in India, will be redirected to, .in , the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for India. This obviously, will enable blogger to block in India, the content in violation to Indian laws. ---------

Google says WEOW! about Women Entrepreneurs in India
Google says WEOW! about Women Entrepreneurs

Search Giant Google, which has many internet properties like Gmail, YouTube and other Google+ products, has launched ' Women Entrepreneurs on the Web ' (WEOW).

WEOW is a Google initiative aimed at helping women entrepreneurs across India grow their online presence.

What will WEOW provide:

The program will provide women entrepreneurs support on using various web-based technologies and eventually help them increase their outreach to the customer base. WEOW is a 5 circle approach that starts with building an online presence and moves towards collaborating effectively, connecting with customers, promoting their organizations to then tracking and optimizing their online presence.

Regarding the new initiative, below is what Google has to say:

"We realized that they were true entrepreneurs who were not afraid to try new things, yet many were unaware of various products that can be used to leverage the full potential of the Internet... The large number of women entrepreneurs in India made it a natural decision for us to pilot this initiative here,”. ---------

How Jack Dorsey sees Twitter
How Jack Dorsey sees Twitter

Brands, whether physical or online, are always trying to regulate the way the end users define and use their product/service. Although many experts advocate that -- brands should keep evolving with the end user; the mere thought of end users ‘defining and using the product/service’ in ways not planned by the creator, gives them jitters. The reasons for this uneasiness are the resources (money, technology and manpower) go for continuous evolution.

For these reasons, in the lifecycle of any product/service, the creators keep indirectly reminding the users of how they see the product/service and how they think; users should/would be using it.

In a talk at the DLD conference in Munich, Twitter co-founder and executive chairman Jack Dorsey took opportunity to define Twitter his and his company’s way. Speaking of the most important words to describe Twitter versus its competitors, Dorsey said “Public,” “real-time” and “simplicity”.

Interestingly, Dorsey didn’t say “social”.

Dorsey doesn’t see Twitter as a “social” entity as Facebook and Google+ is. Instead, for him Twitter is more like a service which helps a user to learn about what his/her friends are doing in the areas relevant to him/her. Like Twitter is a tool for a marketer to see what a top marketer is up to. Thus Dorsey sees ‘Twitter as social’ as just one part of what people do on Twitter.

That apart, according to Dorsey, Twitter people think of it as an information utility and a communications network, which beats players like Google+ and Facebook by being more accessible. To substantiate, his assertion, Dorsey said that it is not necessary to tweet to get value out of Twitter. An attribute which makes Twitter both a destination and a distribution channel.

On how not to define twitter as, Dorsey, appeared less committed to describing Twitter as a tool of democracy. This is interesting or not so interesting, when Twitter played a key role in ousting Mubarak in Egypt, and compelling US Congress of reversing on SOPA.

Dorsey was also representing himself at DLD in his second full-time role as CEO of the payments company Square, available in United States only. Square contemplates entering Asia, including China, this year; which it believes is a natural fit because many people in Asia have already stopped carrying cash. ---------

Google Launches Free Analytics Tool for Mobile, names it Our Mobile Planet
With increasing number of people around the world turning to mobile devices to access information, communicate and connect; feeling the need to have a tool which helps organizations and individuals track trends and statistics about the way the world uses mobile devices to connect, becomes obvious.

To cater to this need, Google has recently launched a tool, named Our Mobile Planet, which is a research and analytics tool that Google provides for free.

The service which involves the research done by Google in the beginning 2011, includes information from different demographics, countries, mobile carriers, and platforms.

So if you are keen to have insights on smartphone usage, mobile attitudes; and use those to create custom charts to help you derive inferences about the mobile consumer, which will eventually help you formulate support data driven mobile strategy; then you can try the Our Mobile Planet. Considering the fact that Google is offering that amount of data for free, has surprised many, you can be one too.

From where the Google’s offered data comes from:

The data comes from research by Google, Ipsos and the Mobile Marketing Association and includes information on usage patterns and behaviors, particularly with regard to social media, search, video and email messaging. The research also includes purchasing activities and mobile shopping patterns. In addition, according to Google most of the data has been compared against traditional desktop Internet use, to provide better context.

To encourage extensive use of Data:

The Our Mobile Planet allows users to choose among data sets and manipulate these as necessary. To increase the portability of data, the tool allows the data to be exported as a PNG graphic, or as a spreadsheet in either CSV or Microsoft Excel format.

Although Google expects mostly the marketers and webmasters using the tool; other people can also get interesting information. ---------

Internet users in India to grow at 200 percent to reach 300 million by 2014
The fact that telecom carriers in India are investing in high-speed wireless infrastructure and smartphones become cheaper, makes Google think that -- India's Internet users will triple by 2014.

Sharing the findings of a new report by Google, Google's country head in India, Rajan Anandan, said that the company forecasts India will reach at least 300 million or 30 crore Internet users by 2014. At present the number of internet users in India is 100 million or 10 crore.

Anandan said he expected the next 200 million Indian web users to mainly access the Internet on the high-speed wireless networks that carriers are in the process of rolling out countrywide.

Another thing which needs to be ensured for India to reach the 300 million internet users is that mobile handset makers bring out smartphones at prices which India's masses can afford, adds Google India Head.

The wonder that is India:

Courtesy, its billion plus population; With just eight percent of its 1.2-billion population online, India is already the third-largest Internet market by users, behind China and the United States.

The fact that, despite a lot of the infrastructure challenges in the country, India still manages to bring 100 million Indians online makes the country even more special for the search giant; who is closely monitoring the online behavior of online Indians.

Although Google sees India as a huge emerging internet market, it still finds making money off that growing audience a bit difficult, for reasons like television and newspapers still draw the most advertising in the country, the government keeps throwing up regulatory hurdles, etc.

Size of Indian online ad spending market (Money businesses spend to show their ads on online properties like websites, search engines etc.):
